“Tri”ing to follow God

Last weekend I got to witness something pretty amazing here in my little Texas town, the Kerrville Triathlon. My husband and a few family members and friends all participated in this athletic event. Each person I knew that was racing had different goals and different distances.

For those who aren’t familiar, a triathlon consists of three activities: swimming, biking, running. There are people of all levels out there doing the tri. And there are different distances you can compete in. Some people (me) think they can’t do a triathlon because they aren’t comfortable doing one or more of the events (swim for me) or are afraid of one or more events (also me). Some people compete in a relay, where each member does one of the legs (swim, bike, or run). No matter what they are actually competing in, each person has said yes to doing a hard thing when they are part of a triathlon. For some it’s harder than others, and each person’s race is different.

Our spiritual life can be like the triathlon. Some of us are cruising right along like a pro, some of us need a little help, or some of us think they aren’t equipped for a certain task God has for them. Some may do one part of God’s plan and then someone else may do another part. Some may like certain parts of the “race course”, but not other parts.

Whatever circumstances we find ourselves in and which situation may describes us, we can encourage each other in our races. If we are in a season of being on the sidelines watching, let’s pray for and cheer others on. If we are competing, keep stepping out in faith and run your race well, encouraging each other and helping others that need assistance. It doesn’t matter how big or how small your part in the race is, you can do it well. Don’t compare yourself to how someone else is doing. God has a completely different “race” plan for them. Look to God and push harder past your doubts.

“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.””‭‭John‬ ‭16:33‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It won’t be easy, but God will never leave us. He gives us the courage to step out and run our race well.  Let’s not let our fears and doubts stop us from doing the things God has planned for us.Keep “tri”ing (see what I did there) and don’t stop running your spiritual race. I’m cheering you on.

Keep on going,

Melissa
